Is the HighLevel Certification Worth It in 2026?

The HighLevel Certification costs $97 a month and only stays active while you keep paying. For a freelancer selling to strangers it can be a useful trust signal; for most business owners it's a course they don't need. What you get, what it costs over two years, and who should bother.

Forget the badge. The HighLevel Certification is really a $97-a-month directory listing with a course attached — and whether it’s worth it depends entirely on whether strangers need a reason to trust you.

That’s a feature, not a knock. HighLevel’s own page is headed “Certification Proves You’re the Real Deal” and says clients and employers prioritise proven expertise. If your next client already knows your work, the badge proves nothing they didn’t know. If your next client is a stranger comparing three freelancers, it might be the only thing they can check.

Disclosure: I earn a commission if you sign up for GoHighLevel through links on this page. How that works is in the editorial policy.

For context: I’ve been building websites for 10+ years, I’ve done GoHighLevel funnel, CRM and automation work since 2022, and I’m Top Rated on Upwork with 100% Job Success. Everything below about the programme comes from HighLevel’s own pages, and the verdicts are reasoning, not survey results. This post sits in the Agency Operations pillar.

What $97 a month actually buys

HighLevel’s certifications page (checked Oct 2026) describes a paid subscription, separate from your HighLevel plan, built in three steps: enrol, complete hands-on training, pass the exam.

The foundation is the Certified Admin credential. Once you have it, you can stack specialised skills badges: A2P Compliance, Course Creator, SaaSPRENEUR “Local Hero”, AI Employee, HIPAA Compliance, Paid Ads, Social Media Manager, Automated Swag Store and Quick Wins.

The training lives in a private certification community, separate from HighLevel University. The page says the course is designed to take 7–10 days at a steady pace. Then comes the exam. Certification requires passing a live proctor exam — the page’s FAQ also calls it Part B — and HighLevel’s booking page asks you to use the same email as your certification subscription (checked Oct 2026).

What HighLevel doesn’t publish: exam length, pass mark, or the rest of the exam’s format. If those matter to you, ask in the community after you enrol — don’t trust a forum post from last year.

Passing gets you the Admin badge, an optional listing in the HighLevel Certified Directory, the certified community and advanced courses, dedicated certified support, the chance to bid on freelance jobs reserved for certified professionals, and early access to new features, per the same page. Passing the live proctor is also what unlocks the skills badges, even if you skip the directory.

The clause that turns a credential into a membership

Here’s the number: $97 a month with no long-term commitment, or $970 a year paid upfront. HighLevel’s pricing page lists the same $97/mo programme as an add-on (both checked Oct 2026). Teams of more than 15 are asked to contact HighLevel for enterprise pricing.

One small oddity: the page puts a 20% figure on annual, but the arithmetic is $970 a year against $97 × 12 = $1,164 paid monthly, a $194 difference, or about 17%. Not a big deal. Just check the current price on the certification page rather than trusting any blog’s maths, including mine. The same yearly-vs-monthly arithmetic for the platform plans themselves is in GoHighLevel annual vs monthly.

Now the clause that matters more than the price. Certification depends on an active subscription. If it ends, your certification becomes inactive and you’re removed from the directory. Re-enrol within 90 days and you can reactivate without retaking the live proctor; after 90 days, you retake it.

On top of that, the Admin badge is valid for two years from the day you pass the live proctor, and to stay certified you must earn at least two additional skills badges a year. The FAQ says you don’t need to recertify every year — but the two-badges-a-year rule is effectively your annual requirement.

Translation: this isn’t a diploma you hang on the wall. It’s a membership you keep paying for.

The directory is the real product

You’ve probably guessed where this is going.

The training is useful, but so is a lot of free material. The thing you can’t get anywhere else is the HighLevel Certified Directory — a public, searchable list of admins who passed the live proctor, which businesses can use when they need HighLevel help and don’t know who to call.

HighLevel has published one hard number on it. In a December 2025 post, it reported 1,031 directory leads in November 2025 across 456 admins in the directory, plus 85 in-app job submissions (checked Oct 2026). That’s HighLevel’s own figure, for one month, and a lead isn’t a client. The certification page itself doesn’t promise leads. HighLevel’s Academy page now points to a directory of 800+ Certified Admins, so the field is getting more crowded.

So be honest about what you’re buying. You’re paying for a place in a searchable list of people who passed a live, proctored exam. For a freelancer with no reviews and no portfolio yet, that can matter a lot. For an established shop, it’s one more badge on the website.

What the badge tells a stranger, and what it can’t

Picture a dental practice owner on a Thursday evening with three proposals open. One freelancer has a Certified Admin badge and a directory profile. One has a slick portfolio. One has neither but is cheapest.

The badge tells her one specific thing: this person passed HighLevel’s own live, proctored exam. It doesn’t tell her they understand dental patient flow, can write a reminder sequence that cuts no-shows, or will still answer emails in month four. A portfolio and references answer those questions. The badge answers “do they know the software?”

Which is why it works best as a tie-breaker, not a pitch. In my experience, what closes service clients is evidence you’ve solved their kind of problem before — the badge can help you make the shortlist, the work wins the contract. If you’re moving from one-off builds to retainers, the project-to-recurring playbook covers the part the badge can’t.

Who it makes sense for, and who should skip it

This is reasoning from how the programme works, not data on who wins more clients. Nobody has published that.

If you’re the last-but-one row, don’t feel bad. Most people using GoHighLevel never need to prove anything to anyone except their own pipeline. Read the GoHighLevel review after 3 years and get the plan right instead — Starter vs Unlimited vs Agency Pro and the plan picker are the faster wins.

And for the record: certification isn’t a gate to features. Sub-accounts come with your HighLevel plan, and SaaS Mode with the $497/mo Agency Pro plan, per HighLevel’s pricing guide (checked Oct 2026); budget the whole stack with the true-cost calculator.

Free ways to learn it (and what they won’t give you)

Before you pay $97 a month to learn the platform, use what’s free. Three official options, none of which gives you a credential.

The HighLevel help center. help.gohighlevel.com is free to read and searchable, with step-by-step articles on setting up features. Many of the questions a course answers, the help center answers too — just without the structure.

The HighLevel Bootcamp. HighLevel’s Bootcamp page describes a free, live Zoom class, 60 minutes max, with breakout rooms. It walks six quick-win setups — text marketing, missed-call text-back, the mobile app, social media integrations, Google Business Chat, and reputation and review management — and comes with a 30-day HighLevel trial (checked Oct 2026). It isn’t recorded, so turn up on time.

HighLevel Academy. The Academy page collects live and pre-recorded webinars, a weekly podcast, bi-weekly challenges and local meetups (checked Oct 2026). Good for staying current; not a structured path to a credential.

If you’re not on HighLevel yet, the Bootcamp is the sensible first step — certification makes more sense once you’ve built enough to know you’ll sell this work. If you are selling it, snapshot reselling is another way to package the skill, badge or no badge.

FAQ

How much does the HighLevel Certification cost? HighLevel’s certification page lists $97 a month with no long-term commitment, or $970 a year paid upfront (checked October 2026). Teams of more than 15 are asked to contact HighLevel for enterprise pricing. Check the current price on the certification page before you enrol.

Is the HighLevel Certification a one-time exam? No. It’s a subscription. The Certified Admin badge is valid for two years from passing the live proctor exam, you must earn at least two additional skills badges a year to stay certified, and the certification goes inactive if the subscription ends.

What is the HighLevel Certification exam like? HighLevel describes three steps: enrol, complete hands-on training, pass the exam. Certification requires passing a live proctor exam, which the page also calls Part B, booked with the email tied to your certification subscription. HighLevel doesn’t publish the exam’s length, pass mark or the rest of its format.

Do certified admins get leads from HighLevel? Certified Admins who pass the live proctor can be listed in HighLevel’s Certified Directory. HighLevel reported 1,031 directory leads across 456 listed admins in November 2025. That’s HighLevel’s own figure for a single month, and the certification page itself doesn’t promise leads.

Is there free GoHighLevel training instead? Yes. The HighLevel help center is free to read, the HighLevel Bootcamp is a free live Zoom class that comes with a trial, and HighLevel Academy collects webinars, a weekly podcast, challenges and meetups. None of them gives you a credential or a directory listing.

Do I need the certification to resell GoHighLevel or run SaaS Mode? No. Sub-accounts come with your HighLevel plan and SaaS Mode with the Agency Pro plan; neither is gated by certification. The certification is about proving your skill to clients and employers, not unlocking features.

The badge earns the shortlist

Back to the dental practice owner with three proposals open. The certified freelancer doesn’t automatically win. But they’re the one she can verify on HighLevel’s own directory, without taking anyone’s word for it.

If you need that — if your next client is a stranger — the certification is a reasonable $97 a month, as long as you’re ready to keep paying and keep earning badges. Read the renewal rules on the certification page (affiliate link) first. If your next client already knows your work, spend the $97 on the work instead.
