GHL AI Employee Cost Breakdown: Growth vs Unlimited vs Pay-Per-Use
GoHighLevel's AI Employee is billed per enabled sub-account, which is fine at one location and a real line item at twenty-five. What each tier includes, the pay-per-use rates, illustrative maths at 1, 5, 10 and 25 sub-accounts, and how agencies rebill it.
Quick quiz: what does GoHighLevel AI Employee cost an agency with 25 client accounts? $97? $297? If all 25 run a subscription tier, the honest answer is $1,250 a month on Growth or $2,425 on Unlimited, before a single phone call is billed.
That gap isn’t hidden. It’s one phrase on HighLevel’s pricing page — per sub-account — that most people read straight past. This post is about that phrase: what each tier includes, what pay-per-use charges, illustrative maths at 1, 5, 10 and 25 sub-accounts, and how agencies pass the cost on.

One more disclosure: of the AI Employee plans, I only earn a commission on AI Employee Unlimited. That’s exactly why this post tells you when Growth or Pay-Per-Use is the better buy.
What each AI Employee tool actually does, and where it falls short, is a different question, answered in the AI Employee review. Whether a given call should reach AI at all is in AI receptionist or human?. This one is the bill. It sits in the AI Marketing Workflows pillar.
The phrase that changes the maths: per enabled sub-account
HighLevel’s AI product pricing article (last modified 20 Oct 2026; checked Oct 2026) bills both subscription tiers “per enabled location,” monthly. The pricing page lists the same add-on: Growth $50/mo and Unlimited $97/mo per sub-account.
Your agency plan doesn’t change that. Starter, Unlimited and Agency Pro all pay the same AI Employee price per location. What the plan changes is how many locations you can have — Starter caps you at three — and whether you can rebill.
And one line sits outside every tier: Phone System charges still apply to all phone calls regardless of plan, billed separately from AI. Unlimited AI doesn’t mean unlimited telephony.
What each tier actually includes
You can skip the marketing names. Here’s what’s in the box, straight from the pricing article.

Two footnotes matter. Agent Studio is pay-per-use on every plan and isn’t included in either subscription. And “unlimited” carries a fair-use clause: HighLevel says excessive use may lead to throttling, limits, required upgrades or termination.
Pay-per-use, line by line
Pay-per-use looks cheap because the sticker is zero. It’s also the hardest to forecast, because three different meters run at once on a voice call.
Here’s the voice stack from the pricing article. The Voice Engine is $0.045 a minute (the rate since 20 May 2026). Text-to-speech adds $0.015 a minute for OpenAI or Cartesia voices, $0.035 for ElevenLabs V2.5, or $0.17 for ElevenLabs V3. Then LLM tokens for whichever model the agent runs. Then Phone System charges. Speech-to-speech models are billed all-in instead, at $0.10 or $0.20 a minute depending on the model.
Picture a single dental sub-account on pay-per-use. Over a month, Voice AI picks up 80 after-hours minutes on an OpenAI voice: 80 × ($0.045 + $0.015) = $4.80, plus tokens and phone charges. Reviews AI drafts 40 review replies: 40 × $0.01 = $0.40. Conversation AI answers web chats on GPT-5 Mini at $0.25 per million input tokens and $2.00 per million output tokens.
What that chat line comes to depends on prompt length, knowledge base size and how chatty the agent is — which is exactly why you can’t price pay-per-use from a blog post.
The model you pick swings the number too. The article lists Conversation AI rates from GPT-4.1 Mini at $0.40/$1.60 per million tokens up to GPT-4.1 at $2.00/$8.00. Translation: on pay-per-use, the model dropdown is a pricing decision.
Illustrative maths at 1, 5, 10 and 25 sub-accounts
Stay with me here. These are illustrative list-price sums, not a forecast of your bill. They assume every sub-account has AI Employee enabled on the same tier, monthly billing, and they exclude usage, overages and Phone System charges. Agency plan prices are from gohighlevel.com/pricing (checked Oct 2026).
| Sub-accounts on AI | Smallest agency plan that fits | Growth AI total | Unlimited AI total | Plan + Growth | Plan + Unlimited |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Starter, $97 | $50 | $97 | $147 | $194 |
| 5 | Unlimited, $297 | $250 | $485 | $547 | $782 |
| 10 | Unlimited, $297 | $500 | $970 | $797 | $1,267 |
| 25 | Unlimited, $297 | $1,250 | $2,425 | $1,547 | $2,722 |
If you need to rebill AI Employee to those clients, swap the plan column for Agency Pro at $497 — add $200 to the 5, 10 and 25 rows, or $400 to the single-location row. Pay-per-use has no column because its total is pure usage.
Notice what happens as the count climbs. By 10 sub-accounts, even the Growth line is bigger than the platform it sits on — and at 25 on Unlimited, the AI add-on alone is more than eight times the $297 plan. That’s the moment AI Employee stops being an add-on and becomes your biggest software cost. Which is exactly why the tier choice should be made per location, not once for the agency.
Plug your own count into the true-cost calculator, and see what the GHL bill actually says for the SMS, call and email lines that sit next to it.
Where Growth stops being the cheap option
The difference between Growth and Unlimited is $97 − $50 = $47 a month per sub-account. So the question for each location is simple: will its overage on Growth regularly cost more than $47? If not, Growth is cheaper. If yes, Unlimited is.
Here’s an illustrative way to think about it on voice alone. On an OpenAI or Cartesia voice, each overage minute costs at least $0.045 + $0.015 = $0.06 before LLM tokens. $47 ÷ $0.06 ≈ 783 extra minutes, on top of the 100 included — so roughly 880 Voice AI minutes a month before Unlimited pulls ahead on engine and voice charges alone. Tokens on those overage minutes push the crossover lower; how much lower depends on your model and prompt. Phone System charges don’t move it at all, because both tiers pay them.
Chat works the same way past 1,000 responses, priced in tokens. If a location sits well inside both allowances, Growth is cheaper, every month. If it regularly blows through them by more than $47 worth of usage, Unlimited is the cheaper and more predictable choice for that location. And if it barely uses AI at all, pay-per-use may beat both.
And if you’re not sure? The location’s AI Usage Limit setting lets you pick “Keep AI running, just notify” or “Block AI at the limit” — so a Growth location can’t quietly run up a bill while you watch the first month’s numbers.
Which tier fits which sub-account
You don’t have to pick one tier for the whole agency. Each enabled location is billed on its own, so match the tier to the account’s volume.
| Sub-account profile | Lean towards | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Low or unknown volume, testing AI for the first time | Pay-Per-Use | No monthly fee; usage dashboard shows the real pattern |
| Steady chat inside 1,000 responses, voice inside 100 minutes | Growth | Allowances cover it; Reviews and Content AI unlimited |
| Regular overage worth more than $47 a month (for example, voice well past the 880-minute mark) | Unlimited | Cheaper than paying that overage at pay-per-use rates |
| More than 100 Managed Agent runs a month | Unlimited, if the extra runs cost more than $47 at token rates | 1,000 runs vs Growth’s 100 |
| Client wants a predictable monthly AI line | Whichever tier its volume fits | Both subscriptions are flat per location; overage and fair use still apply |
Not sure what the volume will be? That’s a good sign to start on pay-per-use or Growth. The receptionist decision guide helps you work out which calls should reach AI in the first place; AI Employee vs hiring a VA frames the staffing cost side.
How agencies rebill AI Employee
If you manage client accounts, you probably don’t want AI Employee sitting on your card. Three documented pieces make rebilling work.
The plan gate. HighLevel’s AI pricing article says agencies must be on the $497/month plan to rebill AI Employee, with rebilling enabled in agency settings. It also notes usage-based services, AI usage included, are typically funded through the agency wallet.
Resale through the client’s wallet. HighLevel’s Reselling and Rebilling through SaaS V2 Payment Providers article lists AI Employee among the products you can resell, charged through the sub-account wallet. Conversation AI and Voice AI are on its list of usage products that can be rebilled. The client has to keep that wallet funded.
Markup or fixed rate. HighLevel’s fixed-rate rebilling article lets you price Conversation AI and Voice AI usage independently: a markup on cost, or a fixed rate. You set it under Manage Client > Rebilling Settings, in a SaaS plan’s rebilling flow, or from the AI usage dashboard, and it applies to future charges only. The client’s invoice shows one line per AI product with the amount, not the pricing model. One warning in the article is worth repeating: set a fixed rate below your token cost and “you absorb the difference.”
How you package all of this — what you charge, what you bundle — is the SaaS question, covered in GHL SaaS Mode explained and the economics of reselling GHL. If you’re deciding whether to move up to Agency Pro at all, Starter vs Unlimited vs Agency Pro walks it, and the plan picker gives you a fast answer.
FAQ
How much does GoHighLevel AI Employee cost? Growth is $50 a month and Unlimited is $97 a month, each per enabled sub-account. Pay-Per-Use has no monthly fee and bills on usage. Phone System charges for calls are billed separately on every option (checked October 2026 on HighLevel’s AI product pricing article).
Is AI Employee charged per sub-account or per agency? Per sub-account. HighLevel bills the Growth and Unlimited plans monthly per enabled location, so an agency that switches it on for ten clients pays ten times the tier price.
What happens when a Growth sub-account goes over its allowance? Usage beyond the included 100 Voice AI minutes or 1,000 Conversation AI responses is billed at pay-per-use rates. The location’s AI Usage Limit setting decides whether AI keeps running and notifies you, or blocks at the limit.
How much does Voice AI cost per minute on pay-per-use? HighLevel lists a Voice Engine rate of $0.045 a minute plus text-to-speech, which is $0.015 a minute for OpenAI or Cartesia voices and more for ElevenLabs. LLM tokens and Phone System charges are added on top (checked October 2026).
Can agencies resell AI Employee to clients? Yes. HighLevel’s AI pricing article says AI Employee rebilling requires the $497/month plan. Its SaaS rebilling article lists AI Employee as a resale product charged through the client’s sub-account wallet, and Conversation AI and Voice AI usage can be rebilled at a markup or a fixed rate.
Is AI Employee Unlimited really unlimited? It’s unlimited subject to fair use. HighLevel’s pricing article says excessive use may lead to throttling, limits, required upgrades or termination under its Terms of Service.
Back to the 25-account agency
So what does AI Employee cost an agency with 25 clients? Somewhere between zero and $2,425 a month on list prices, depending on which accounts actually need it and on which tier. The agencies that get the number right don’t pick a tier. They pick one per location, watch a month of usage, and move a location up only when its own numbers say the overage costs more than the upgrade.
